Mindshift Keynote: Be the Disrupter, Not the Disrupted

We are experiencing a historic acceleration in the pace of change in our world. Artificial intelligence, digitization, robotics, 3D printing, and the rise of purpose-driven enterprises are reconfiguring how industries operate. These changes divide us into two camps: the “Disruptors” and the “Disrupted”. Entrepreneur, author, consultant and CEO Kaihan Krippendorff has spent over a decade studying what makes companies and individuals thrive in the face of disruption, while others fall behind; what gives some the power to shape the future and makes others fail to keep up. In this keynote, Krippendorff breaks down the underlying patterns of disruption and with compelling stories of successes, failures, and yet-unknown innovations, teaches practical tools to help you take action and become a Disruptor.

What Will Central Bank Digital Currencies Do For Payments?

Countries are experimenting with Central Bank Digital Currencies and it is very likely they will be developed. The President’s recent Executive Order makes it clear the government will investigate the technical needs for a digital currency and advocates the Federal Reserve to continue its research. As a result a CBDC in the US is quite likely and it will join a chorus of CBDC’s around the world. While there are core issues with interoperability and operating model, CBDCs are likely to have a massive impact on cross-border payments, FX, and settlements. At the same time crypto-natives firms are offering a different product, “stablecoins”, which have many of the advantages of a CBDC and which are available now. And in a short time they have accumulated over $180 billion in assets while yielding vastly more than bank accounts. However there are concerns over their safety and with that their future given likekly evolution of the regulatory environment.

What are the key questions Treasurers should ask? What do you need to know about tokens and settling transactions “on the blockchain”? What types of capabilities are possible and how can firms move towards them? And of course: what’s the likelihood this level of change will occur?

Tuesday Keynote: Think Again: The Power of Knowing What You Don't Know

The past year has led us to rethink fundamental assumptions—where to work, how to manage remote culture and collaboration, whether to reimagine our strategy and our products or services. Yet too many leaders and employees, reluctant to think in new ways, have taken a reactionary approach that threatens the overall health of the organization. Organizational psychologist, Adam Grant, examines how treasury and finance professionals can evolve their thinking, open their minds, and build a learning organization in which people know what they don’t know and are eager to improve upon the status quo. His eye-opening evidence and entertaining delivery will leave attendees determined to never again say “that’s the way we’ve always done it.”

How to Quantify the Value of Major Projects

Investment in major projects, long-term tangible and intangible assets that create value, enhance capabilities, and position the organization for long-term returns, is key to business growth. Yet, determining the strategic and financial value of major projects - building long-term and uncertain assumptions, handling allocations and attribution when there are shared revenues and costs and analyzing consolidated project portfolios or related segments - is a notoriously difficult and nuanced task for most FP&A professionals. In this session an FP&A advisor walks attendees through a project forecast plan and assesses the incremental costs and value, not just of the project itself, but of its contribution to the financial well-being of the company.

How Payroll On Demand Can Punch the Clock on Regularly Scheduled Paychecks

With the growth of the gig economy and digital payments, why is the bi-weekly payday still the norm? This session will illustrate how technology, fintechs, employers and banks have partnered to reinvent payroll through a new employer-offered benefit, payroll on demand — or earned wage access (EWA). This innovative work today, get paid today payment solution challenges status quo thinking about payroll and how companies hold funds through scheduled payroll cycles. Giving employees access to their wages as they are earned is a benefit that can help retain current employees and attract prospective ones — in many cases, without impacting an employer’s existing cashflow cycles or payroll provider. Explore why your company should consider adopting an EWA solution. You’ll also hear from a client who is currently using an EWA product and learn about how this benefit has successfully differentiated their company and delighted their employees.

Cash Investing: Returning to Normal

Organizations accumulated historically large cash balances during the COVID era, and subsequently are unable to capitalize on real incremental income due to zero rates and a desire to remain overly liquid as a defense against uncertainty. But with rates above zero, inflation at or below 2% and little Fed market intervention treasury managers face high inflation and an altered fixed income landscape, which can impact investment decisions. In this session, panelists assess how this current cycle relates to prior cycles, discuss the factors driving changes in the fixed income market to arm practitioners with the resources for making appropriate allocation judgements in a dynamic market environment.
